Title: Hex Hall (Book 1)
Author: Rachel Hawkins

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters. By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect. As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
5 Stars!
Review: One of the best books I have read in a long time. I have always loved witches ever since I was a little girl. Something about them I have just always loved and I love books based on them. Hex Hall has witches and so much more! There were so many surprises through this whole book that I did not put it down until I read the last page. This book has been sitting on my shelf for a couple of months waiting for me to pick it up and read it. I wanted to read it as soon as I got it and the only reason I didn't is because I like to wait for at least the second book in the series to come out before I start the first one because not knowing what happens next drives me nuts! But I couldn't wait any longer to read this book, and the cover is just amazing and really drew my attention even more to read it. I will admit that almost every time that I picked this book up I picked it up upside down. Ooops! =)
I really liked Sophie's character. She goes through a lot in this book. Not having a relationship with her father and then learning something huge that comes from someone other than her mom. I loved her relationship with Archer, well the little bit that there was. I can not wait for book 2 to see what happens there.
There is a lot of suspense in this book and it is a great mystery. Rachel Hawkins is an amazing author, she has been added to one of my favorites!
First Line: Felicia Miller was crying in the bathroom. Again.
