Review: Being Jamie Baker

Title: Being Jamie Baker
Author: Kelly Oram
Pages: 353
Published: June 14, 2010
"Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss..." An accident that should end in tragedy instead gives seventeen-year-old Jamie Baker a slew of uncontrollable superhuman abilities. To keep her secret safe Jamie socially exiles herself, earning the title of Rocklin High’s resident ice queen. But during a supercharged encounter with star quarterback Ryan Miller she literally kisses anonymity goodbye. Now the annoyingly irresistible Ryan will stop at nothing to melt the heart of the ice queen and find out what makes her so special. Unfortunately, Ryan is not the only person on to her secret. Will Jamie learn to contain her unstable powers before being discovered by the media or turned into a government lab rat? More importantly, can she throw Ryan Miller off her trail before falling in love with him?

Review: I was so sad to see this book end. Yes, there were parts of this book that I rolled my eyes and could have skipped over, but I didn't. I think the only thing that I did not like about this book was how whiny Jamie was. Yes, she got in an accident years before and she has these special powers, but when Ryan comes into the picture and wants to help her and be her friend all she does is make excuses. And it's like this until almost the end of the book, I wish that the author would have let Jamie see how awesome of a person Ryan was and trust him so that we could have had a little bit more of Ryan and Jamie's relationship. I do understand how Jamie can't tell people because if people find out then they are going to want to experiment on her and she will never be able to live a normal life. But I still think the point could have come across around half way through the book until almost to the end with her trusting Ryan.
Saying, this book was just awesome! I could not put it down until I read the last page. It was funny, it was mysterious, there was romance, a little bit of everything that I love to read. I really loved Jamie and Ryan's relationship. Ryan was such a likable character in the book and I found him very funny and loved reading his parts. He kept the book interesting and fun for me.

First Line: Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss.
